Autumn is, indisputably, a busy time in the art world. Many fairs are held during these months and, in addition, most museums and galleries inaugurate their new seasons with spectacular art exhibitions. Sometimes there are so many new things to see that it can be difficult to decide where to start.

For those looking for a cultural getaway, Europe offers a number of international exhibitions that are the center of global attention.
1. Ghosts: Visualizing the Supernatural
Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel

This exhibition brings together more than two centuries of art depicting the invisible, the occult and the spectral. From Romanticism to the present day, artists from different periods have depicted the supernatural as a way of speaking of desire, fear, death or the unconscious.
Brancusi: The Birth of Modern Sculpture
H’ART Museum, Amsterdam
20 September 2025 – 18 January 2026
A journey to the origin of modern sculpture through the work of Constantin Brancusi. This ambitious retrospective explores the evolution of his formal language, his influence on later generations and the essential poetics of his forms.
3. Fra Angelico
Palazzo Strozzi and San Marco Museum, Florence
September 26, 2025 – January 25, 2026
Florence pays tribute to Fra Angelico, master of the Quattrocento and key figure of the Italian Renaissance. Between the Palazzo Strozzi and the convent of San Marco, where the artist lived, more than 140 of his works are gathered, the most extensive exhibition dedicated to the artist to date.
4. Michaelina Wautier. A woman out of her century
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna
30 September 2025 – 22 February 2026
Michaelina Wautier was a 17th century Flemish painter who defied the limits of her time. Forgotten for centuries, this exhibition brings together for the first time almost all of her known production and gives her the recognition she deserves.
5. Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely and Pontus Hultén
Grand Palais, Paris
June 26, 2025 – January 4, 2026
Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely were a legendary artistic couple who shared a radical vision of art as a form of rebellion. This exhibition reviews their creative trajectory through the key figure of Pontus Hultén, first director of the Centre Pompidou, who supported them throughout their careers.

V&A East Storehouse, London
From September 2025 (permanent collection)
For fans of pop culture, London has an unmissable novelty: the new V&A East Storehouse opens its doors with, among other gems, the David Bowie archive. Iconic costumes, handwritten lyrics, personal items and much more provide an insight into the creative universe of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

The Spanish art scene shines this fall with great names of the avant-garde and modern art, offering art exhibitions with a renewed look.
1. Barbara Kruger: Another day. Another night
Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao

Last weeks to visit the exhibition of Barbara Kruger, one of the most influential conceptual artists of the last decades, which presents for the first time in Spain a complete retrospective.
2. Antoni Clavé. With capital letters
Palau Martorell and Reial Cercle Artístic, Barcelona
September 5 – November 16, 2025
More than 80 works distributed in two venues trace the stylistic and technical evolution of Antoni Clavé, from the 1930s to the 1990s, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of his death.
3. Maruja Mallo. Mask and compass
Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid
October 8, 2025 – March 16, 2026
This exhibition recovers the key figure of Maruja Mallo, artist of the Generation of ’27, surrealist and pioneer. Her work is presented with a renewed look that places her as one of the great voices of the Spanish avant-garde.
4. Warhol, Pollock and other American spaces.
Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid
October 21, 2025 – January 25, 2026
What do Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock have in common, beyond being absolute icons of 20th century art? This exhibition draws connections between their works and those of other American artists, united by their response to changes in the pictorial tradition.
5. Sorolla in the Alcázar of Seville
Real Alcazar, Seville
December 15, 2025 – March 1, 2026
Although it opens in December, we would also like to highlight the exhibition Sorolla in the Alcázar of Seville, which will explore the dialogue between the environment and the work of the painter, who represented the gardens of the Alcázar in several of his works.
